Bärenwirt: The best traditional Austrian fried chicken (Backhendl) in town, and lots of other specialties, the go-to spot for generations in our family.
Triangel: This gem is right across from the Operahouse. It has all the best Austrian specialties and great atmosphere.
Hotel Sacher: A classic! - the Café there is the place to go for the original Sachertorte
Café Tomaselli: The best of Austrian pastries (Mehlspeisen) and beautiful place to sit outside on the terrace under the trees.
Restuarant Stiegl-Keller: In the heart of the old town in Salzburg, below the Fortress Hohensalzburg. A beer garden with a beautiful view.
M32: Fancy restaurant and bar attached to the Museum of Modern Art, with a great view of the City and Castle.
Herzl: Rustic cellar with Austrian food on Salzburg's classy shopping street the Getreidegasse.
220 Grad: Lovely little breakfast spot with delicious cakes.
OUTSIDE SALZBURG
The Salzkammergut Lakes are pretty magical and certainly worth visiting for a day or longer.
Some of our favorites are Wolfgangsee, Mondsee, Fuschlsee and Attersee.
There are plenty of public beaches (Badeplatz) for a picnic and a dip in the lake and water sports as well as nearby hikes or strolls through the surrounding towns - Hallstatt (Attersee), Mondsee (Mondsee) or St. Gilgen (Wolfgangsee).

Eisriesenwelt Werfen "World of the Ice Giants" (1 hr drive) - a natural limestone and ice cave. It is the largest ice cave in the world, extending more than 42 km.
